The new IBSA Pharmaceuticals headquarters spans an area of about 4000 square meters and houses a variety of functions designed to meet the work and personal needs of those who use these spaces daily. All the environments are interconnected thanks to the presence of the large helical staircase, the main distributive element and at the same time the emblem of the project.
The chandelier, which extends along the entire height of the staircase, is reminiscent of the distinctive elements of every DNA strand, with its cascade of sound-absorbing components created using 3D printing. The scenic presence of these two elements defines the entrance to the building, where guests are welcomed at the reception, located at the base of the staircase. As a formal element, the staircase symbolizes a reference to the DNA structure, which is conceptually the distinctive structure of individuals, and here, the structure of the project itself.
On the ground floor, in addition to the reception, there is the plenary hall and the cafeteria, dynamic spaces that can be reconfigured to host both training courses and important corporate events.
The plenary hall, in particular, is bordered by walls that can be retracted, allowing the space to open entirely towards the reception area. The cafeteria area features an elliptical sound-absorbing ceiling installation, composed of fragmented elements that, according to the principle of parallax, change the formal appearance of the composition and the space depending on the viewer’s perspective. It can also open onto the large plaza in front, creating a close connection with the outdoor space, which is specifically designed for the well-being of employees.
The decision to build an underground floor for the main parking area allowed for the outdoor space to be dedicated to outdoor workstations and a sports trail around the perimeter of the area, supported by a locker room inside the building.
The open-space operational areas extend across both the ground and first floors and are balanced by a large offering of meeting rooms and private spaces for brainstorming sessions and calls with greater privacy. Additionally, medical offices were created on the first floor, allowing professionals to demonstrate and apply the medical products offered by the company in total safety.
The entire project places particular emphasis on acoustic and lighting comfort. Sound-absorbing materials are applied both as wall coverings and as ceiling elements; of particular interest is the development of a custom-designed lamp for the workstations, created specifically for IBSA. This lamp integrates the light fixture with an acoustic baffle and automatically adjusts the light intensity based on the natural light from outside.
The well-being of users and the institutional representation of the company are at the center of the color and finish choices. The mood board combines various shades of blue, in varying levels of saturation, with a base of warm materials and neutral tones like wood and white. Thus, the project interprets the corporate color in a sequence of recognizable but coherent spaces, conveying, through the stylistic and formal choices, a dynamic, elegant, and professional image of the headquarters.
